The Lowcountry Highrollers loaded up the bus and headed west to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Dixie Derby Girls Raging Rockets. After a 13-hour bus ride full of brake lights and road construction, the Highrollers arrived safely in the Rocket City and prepped themselves for their first WFTDA road bout.

This bout marked the All-Star debut of TNTina and Afrodite Superstar, as well as Vixen Dickson’s official return after her ACL reconstruction surgery last September. It was also co-captain Detroit Funk’s birthday!

The bout started out with the Highrollers on a power jam, with Dixie jammer Eracer X sent to the box on a major. The Highrollers used this momentum to their advantage to pick up 14 points and hold the Dixie girls scoreless for the first five minutes of the bout. Dixie rallied back with a 13 point jam, which set the stage for a near-tied score for the rest of the first half. Both teams played tough defense, forcing the jammers to fight for every point.

The Highrollers returned to the track after halftime to start a second half that was full of big hits from terminators Detroit Funk and Sexual Chocolate as well as agile footwork from jammer Green-Eyed Sniper. LCHR focused on securing the critical lead jammer status and was able to use point differentials to their advantage, adding to their lead in 3- and 4-point increments. The Highrollers held the lead throughout the second half, but Dixie came within 17 points in the last five minutes of the game when Five Scar Jeneral picked up several grand slams. The ladies in pink kept their cool and powered through to secure the win with a score of 127-99.

Lots of derby love goes out to the Dixie Derby Girls for being gracious hostesses, as well as our refs and fans who made the trek to come support us. We love to see familiar faces in the crowd, especially when we are so far from home!

The Lowcountry Highrollers All-Stars are now 3-1 for the season, and return home on May 26th to face off with the Carolina Hurticanes. This will the last chance to catch the All-Stars at home before they hit the road for the summer. After away bouts in New Orleans, Tallahassee, and Columbia, the All-Stars will take on the River City Rollergirls Poe’s Punishers at McAlister Fieldhouse on October 27th.
