LCHR Wants YOU!

So you wanna be a roller girl?
Now is your chance to BRING IT!

The Lowcountry Highrollers are holding league tryouts on Saturday, September 22nd!

Tryouts are open to any woman age 18 and older who wants to play the sport of roller derby. We are looking for committed women with strength, determination, and a good attitude.

Prior derby experience is not required – we will teach you what you need to know in our two derby workshops leading up to the tryout date. We also strongly encourage prospective skaters to join our recreational league, where you can learn about the game and build your skills in a friendly, laid-back environment. Practices start August 5th, and will be every Sunday from 12PM-2PM at Hot Wheels.

Here’s the tryout and workshop schedule:
Workshop 1:
Wednesday, September 12th, 6:30-9:00PM

Workshop 2:
Saturday, September 15th, 5:00-7:00PM

Tryouts:
Saturday, September 22nd, 5:00-7:00PM

All workshops and tryouts will be held at Hot Wheels Skating Center located at 1523 Folly Road on James Island. Workshop attendance is not required but is highly recommended.

All prospective skaters must have quad skates, mouthguard, helmet, knee pads, wrist guards, and elbow pads.

Tryout fees are $35.00, which include both workshops and the tryout. Have any questions, or just want to RSVP to this awesome event? Send an email to skatertot@lowcountryhighrollers.com to RSVP to the workshops and tryout, and to get all the latest tryout news and updates!

Now strap on some skates and show us what you’ve got!

The three LCHR home teams have been fighting it out all summer long, and it all comes down to this.

After three intense bouts, the Ashley Riverdolls stand undefeated, with wins over both the Holy City Heartbreakers and the Swamp Foxes. The Heartbreakers then took down the Swamp Foxes, securing a second place finish for the punk rockers. The militant mavens in camo may be pulling up in third place, but their Swamp Fox spirit is far from defeated.

Team standings all go out the window on Sunday, August 5th, when all three home teams face off in their final battle – the 2012 intraleague championship tournament!

Just like the other home team bouts, the action goes down at Hot Wheels Skating Center on James Island. Doors open at 6:00PM, and the first whistle blows at 6:30PM. The tournament will be round robin – each team will play one another, and each bout will be 20 minutes long with a 10-minute intermission in between. The team with the best record at the end WINS IT ALL!

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets are available at the door, or you can save some money by getting them online at strangertickets.com! Use promo code DIRTYDERBY to get $2 off an adult ticket, and DERBYKIDS to get $1 of a kid’s ticket! We’ll also have some awesome Highroller and home team merch to scratch your shopping itch, baked goodies for sale for your snacking pleasure, and of course, all the derby action you love!

This is the final home team bout of the 2012 season, so don’t miss you’re chance to see the Heartbreakers, Riverdolls AND Swamp Foxes battle it out one last time on one big night!

Bringing You MORE Derby!

Bet you thought the 2012 derby season couldn’t get any busier!

We have added TWO new dates to our season schedule, both featuring our fabulous and ferocious Bruisin’ Betties!

On July 28th, the Betties will pack their skate bags and head up to Easley, SC to face off against the Upstate Roller Girl Evolution (URGE).  This will be the Betties’ first official bout against these Upstate ladies, and they don’t want to come home without that win under their belts.

The Bruisin’ Betties will also be participating once again in Palmetto State‘s Labor Pains tournament on September 2nd. The Betties have yet to win the tourament in their three years of participation – is this their year?

We love to see familiar faces in the crowd representing the pink and black, so hit the road with your Highrollers this summer!

Florida Bound!

The Lowcountry Highrollers are back on the road this weekend, heading down to sunny Tallahassee, Florida for a rematch against the Tallahassee Roller Girls.

When these first two teams first met earlier this season, the Tallahassee ladies effectively shut down the Highrollers, outscoring them 234-70. The Highrollers are out for a little revenge as they face off against the ladies in orange once again.

Be sure to follow the Highrollers on Facebook and Twitter for all the updates from the road. Powder Puff Curlz will be bringing you all the live tweets from Tallahassee, so you can keep up with the action. The bout kicks off Sunday at 1:00PM.

It’s time for the 2012 Charleston Pride Festival!

There will be a full weekend’s worth of activities from art walks and film festivals to beach days and dance parties. Your Lowcountry Highrollers are thrilled to participate (for the third year in a row!) in the Charleston Pride Parade this Saturday at 10:00AM!

Come see your local derby ladies in our brightest rainbow colors  as we skate down Montague Avenue in Old North Charleston. We we also lead the processional into Riverfront Park to help kick off a day of fun, food, and music at the Pride Rally! Don’t forget to check out the Mama Q’s Kitchen tent at the rally for some delicious BBQ and tasty Tex Mex. Mama Q takes care of us, so let her take care of you too.

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, so join us in North Charleston as we celebrate equality and honor all families in our community!
