The Highrollers took their show on the road to challenge the Richland County Regulators in Columbia, SC on Sunday, September 25th.

This double header bout kicked off with the Bruisin’ Betties skating against Richland County’s Bad Company.  Major Threat started the Betties off right with 17 point jam, but trips to the penalty box gave Bad Company a chance to even the score. After a few lead changes, the Betties trailed Bad Company going into half time. This bout marked Betties co-captain Christina Hyena’s return after major surgery to repair a broken fibula, and she was out with a vengeance! She teamed up with pivot Kitty Hit’er to punish the Bad Company jammers and clear paths for their team mates. The Betties were unable to regain the lead but fought hard to the very end, with MVP jammer Doutaz Mania fighting her way to a 16-point jam at the very end of the bout. Final score was Bad Company 174, Bruisin’ Betties 127.

While the Betties were hard at work, Mother Nature turned a hot, sunny Sunday afternoon into an evening of thunderstorms and torrential rain. As the All-Star teams warmed up, the roof of the Armory began to leak, making the floor too dangerous for skating. No one likes to miss out on any derby action, so the bout was put on hold while everyone anxiously checked the weather maps and waited for the storm to pass. The skies cleared up, a rainbow appeared in the sky (reports of a double rainbow were not confirmed), and after the first indoor rain delay in Highrollers history, the ladies in pink hit the track for some derby action!

The LCHR All-Stars came out strong, with Green-Eyed Sniper starting it off with a 5-point jam, followed directly by Tropikally Punch’s huge 23-point power jam. After picking up an early lead, the Highrollers settled into their derby groove, with Sexual Chocolate and Lex McCusker doling out some big hits. The Highrollers carried their lead into the half, and continued their effective strategies and teamwork during the second half. Despite multiple trips to the penalty box, the All-Stars were able to maintain their focus and intensity against the formidable Regulators blockers. Red Dread made the final strike with a 24 point jam to secure the All-Stars’ 9th straight win! Final score was LCHR All-Stars 218, Richland County Regulators All-Stars 117.

LCHR Breast Casts for Auction

The featured charity for this bout was the Palmetto Health Breast Center, and to raise money, the Regulators created decorative plaster casts of their breasts that were auctioned during the bout. The Highrollers love the tatas too, so four of our ladies also provided casts for the auction. Many thanks go out to artists Patch Whisky, Ergoe, Christian Ellis, Meta Sapient, and LCHR skater Black Banshee who all painted these casts.

This matchup was the final 2011 bout for the Bruisin’ Betties. Catch these ladies back in action during our 2012 season!

The LCHR All-Stars picked up another win, extending their winning streak this season. They have one more regular season bout left, as they take on the Cape Fear Roller Girls at home on October 8th.

In addition to the All-Star bout, the LCHR home teams will be facing off one more time in a tournament to settle the rivalry. The Swamp Foxes won the last tournament and will fight tooth and nail to defend their title, but the Ashley Riverdolls and Holy City Heartbreakers will be laying it all on the line to take the trophy for themselves! Don’t miss Chucktown Throwdown, headed your way!

The LCHR Bruisn’ Betties were on the road this Labor Day weekend, heading up to Myrtle Beach for their second appearance in the Palmetto State Roller Girls‘ Labor Pains Tournament.

This year, the tournament kicked off with the LCHR Bruisin’ Betties taking on the Greenville Derby Dames Bad News Babes. The Betties were fired up right from the start, and took a big lead over the Greenville squad. Jammers Molly Mauls-A-Lot and Ringo Starrdust picked up grand slams, while the LCHR blockers worked together to stop the Greenville jammers. The Betties continued their momentum to the end, and took the win with a final score of 97-34.

After a short break, the Betties were back on the track against a strong Palmetto State team. The Betties struggled during the first half, with jammers and blockers getting stuck behind solid green walls. Though down at the half, the Betties came out fired up and made a strong showing in the second half. The Highroller ladies put up a fight, but Palmetto State skated away with the win, 54-36.

The final game featured a matchup between Palmetto State and the Bad News Babes, which would determine the winner of the tournament. The Greenville team played with heart and determination, but fell to the more experienced Palmetto State squad. The final score was Palmetto State 102, Greenville Bad News Babes 21.

With the win over the Babes, Palmetto State brought home the golden skate trophy.

We’d like to thank all our fabulous fans who made the trip with us to cheer us on in the tournament. Also, thank you to Palmetto State for hosting the tournament, and and to all teams for the great competition!

The Bruisin’ Betties will be back in action on September 25th against the Richland County Regulators Bad Company at the National Guard Armory in Columbia, SC.

Hurricane Irene took a detour Saturday, but our own Hurricane Camille and the rest of the Lowcountry Highrollers were kickin’ up a storm at the Citadel McAlister Fieldhouse!

The first bout kicked off with the Bruisin’ Betties once again going skate to skate with the Charlotte Roller Girls B Dazzlers.  The Betties started off strong and took the early lead, but too many trips to the penalty box gave the B Dazzlers opportunities for easy points.  This bout featured some big rivalries on the jammer line, with Major Threat taking on Margaret Snatcher and Ringo Starrdust facing off against Lykr C’leen.  Blockers Dame Right and Lulu Cthulhu were mixing it up in the pack, trying to bust up the purple walls.  With the B Dazzlers in the lead, Miss Hawaiian Trippabitch picked up a big 14 points on a power jam right before halftime. After the half, the Betties continued to battle back, getting within 6 points of the B Dazzlers. The Betties fought till the end, but when the final whistle blew, the B Dazzlers skated away with the win. The final score was Charlotte Roller Girls B Dazzlers 106, Lowcountry Highrollers Bruisin’ Betties 85.

The second bout of the evening featured another Charlotte vs. LCHR rematch.  The Highrollers All-Stars were out to preserve their undefeated season against a Charlotte squad that was looking for a little revenge. Just like when these teams met in May, the bout started out slow and strategic.  The first few low-scoring jams were marked by strong blocker positioning and smart jam-calling by the jammers.  Highroller power blockers Sexual Chocolate and Detroit Funk set their sights on Charlotte jammers Da Bomb-chell and Shawn Shank Redemption, giving our jammers Green-Eyed Sniper and Tropikally Punch opportunities to pick up the points.  After an exciting first half full of lead changes, the Highrollers were only up by three at halftime and it was still anyone’s game. The second half featured more smart play, with the Highrollers working together to bust up the Charlotte defense.  Buoyed by jammer and all-around badass Lex McCusker’s huge power jam with 10 minutes left in the half, the Highrollers carried their momentum to another victory! The final score was Lowcountry Highrollers All-Stars 151, Charlotte Roller Girls All-Stars 114, and your LCHR All-Stars remain undefeated!

Our featured charity for the bout was the Teacher’s Supply Closet. Highrollers fans raised over $400 for the organization in our charity raffle, as well as donating several boxes of school supplies which will directly benefit teachers and students in Charleston County. We are also thrilled to have students from Pattison’s Academy join us on the track for some fun, fast-paced laps with derby girls!

We’d like to thank the College of Charleston Belly Dancing Club for the fantastic halftime performance, our wonderful fans who came out to cheer us on, our rockin’ sponsors who support us, all of our dedicated Street Teamers, volunteers, and NSOs who give their time to make this league a success, the hard-working referees who keep the game fair, safe, and fun, and the Charlotte Roller Girls  for being great competitors and classy ladies. Derby love!

The Highrollers will hit the road on September 25th, taking on the Richland County Regulators at the National Guard Armory in Columbia. Want to join us? Get your tickets here. We love to see support when we’re on the road!

You can catch your hometown roller girls back at McAlister Fieldhouse for another evening packed with derby action. The Cape Fear Roller Girls will be in town to take on the LCHR All-Stars, and then all your favorite Highrollers will be laying it all out on the line in the Intraleague Championship. The Swamp Foxes won the trophy at Sibling Rivalry this summer, and the Ashley Riverdolls and Holy City Heartbreakers are itching to take the title for themselves. Don’t miss the CHUCKTOWN THROWDOWN on Saturday, October 8th.

The gloves came off this weekend as the Lowcountry Highrollers skated against their most notorious opponents yet – each other! The league split into three teams to duke it out in our Sibling Rivalry!

The first bout featured a rematch of last season’s intraleague showdowns, with the Holy City Heartbreakers facing off against the Swamp Foxes. The Swamp Foxes hit the track with their teeth bared and were up 36-0 in just a few short minutes. The Heartbreakers knuckled up, and with some smart blocking and a 20-point power jam by Vixen Dickson, they were back in the game. The punk rockers continued to fight their way back to within mere points, but when the final whistle blew, the Swamp Foxes took the win, 55-53.

The next bout featured our brand new intraleague team, the Ashley Riverdolls. The sassy sailors bedecked in blue went up against their unruly red-clad sisters, the Heartbreakers. Both teams sent out strong and clever jammers, and the score remained close for the first half of the 20-minute bout. The Heartbreakers picked up their momentum and rocked it right to the end, winning 73 – 47.

The crowd was treated to a fantastic performance by the always-entertaining ladies of Homespun Hoops (wearing some Heartbreaker red!), and then we named our favorite derby girls. Our fans chose Swamp Fox Green-Eyed Sniper, Heartbreaker Jungle Jane, and Riverdoll Dee-Dee Destroy-her!

After a short break, we were back to the derby action. The Riverdolls were just aching for a win, and came out full steam against the Swamp Foxes, building strong walls and shutting down the foxy jammers. It was a battle of blockers as jammers had to fight hard for every point. The Riverdolls pulled ahead with just under three minutes left to go, but Swamp Fox jammer Goldee Headlocks snagged a grand slam to tie it up. Swamp Foxes got one more point on the next jam, and the Riverdolls quickly called a timeout with just three seconds left to allow for one more jam. The crowd was on its feet as the last jam whistle blew and the pack took off.  Swamp Fox jammer Lex fought her way through the pack first and called it off, securing the Swamp Fox win!

With two wins and no losses, the Swamp Foxes took home the Sibling Rivalry trophy!

Thanks to the generosity of our fans and the amazing prizes donated by Pabst Blue Ribbon and Affordabike (just to name a few!), we raised $933 to be donated directly to our featured charity, the Lowcountry Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (LEAP). This money will allow the organization to continue providing support and therapeutic care to children, adolescents, and adults who have suffered trauma, abuse, neglect, and mental disabilities.

The family rift has been temporarily mended, but the sisters will be back at each other’s throats at our Intraleague Championship on October 8th at the McAlister Fieldhouse.

Don’t miss the reunified Lowcountry Highrollers in action on August 27th. Both the Bruisin’ Betties and All-Stars will be taking on the Charlotte Roller Girls in a rematch of May’s bout on their turf. The Betties are looking to avenge their early season loss, and the All-Stars are out to preserve their undefeated season. Mark your calendars for Bloodbath and Beyond!

We want to show our love to the volunteers, sponsors, referees, NSOs, EMTs, photographers, and fans who support us and our sport. Without you, all we do is skate fast and turn left.

Your final scores:

Swamp Foxes 55 – Holy City Heartbreakers 53
Holy City Heartbreakers 73 – Ashley Riverdolls 47
Swamp Foxes – Ashley Riverdolls

Thank you Charleston!

The Highrollers All-Stars were on the road again this weekend for a rematch against the Rogue Rollergirls of Fayetteville, NC in the Summer Trash bout. This bout was the All-Star debut for Hurricane Camille, Ringo Starrdust, Doutaz Mania, and Auburn Assassin.

After a silly skate-out song complete with stick-on mustaches, the Highrollers got down to business against the tough and hard-hitting ladies of Rogue. The bout started out slow and strategic (and hot!), with not many points on the board for the beginning of the first half. Jammer Ringo Starrdust broke the score wide open by picking up double-digit points on a power jam, and the ladies in pink continued  their momentum from there.

The second half featured a switch-up in player positions for the Highrollers. Lightning-fast jammer Green-Eyed Sniper was slingin’ booty as a blocker, and enforcer Sexual Chocolate and rockstar pivot DJ Pain donned the jammer panty to put up the points for the Highrollers. Both Hip E. Longstalkings and Auburn Assassin had big power jams, which helped carry LCHR to the win, 147-41.

Detroit Funk’s strong blocking, track awareness, and smart jamming earned her yet another MVP title. With this win on the road, the Lowcountry Highroller All-Stars continue their undefeated season!

The Highrollers will be back at home on July 23rd for an all-out intraleague brawl. The Ashley Riverdolls, our newest intraleague team, will join the fray against the Swamp Foxes and the Holy City Heartbreakers. ALL of your Lowcountry Highrollers will be skating, so come out and cheer on your favorite derby girls!
